She came to me alone. She wasn’t looking for a family photoshoot, and she didn’t want to include anyone else in the photographs. She simply wanted to have this particular moment in her life documented for herself.
There was something very calm about the whole session. We didn’t need a complicated concept or a long list of setups. We kept everything intimate and focused entirely on her, her pregnancy and the shape of her body at that moment. We created fine-art maternity portraits with soft light, simple styling and a quiet, elegant atmosphere. The photographs were not about creating a dramatic image or following a particular trend. They were about preserving the beauty of this very specific stage of her life, before she met her baby and before her body changed again.
I think there is something especially beautiful about maternity photography when a woman chooses to do it simply for herself. Pregnancy can be surrounded by so much attention: appointments, preparations, advice, expectations and plans for the baby. But in the middle of all of that, it can be easy to forget the woman who is actually going through it.
For an hour, there was nothing she needed to organise or prepare for anyone else. She could simply be there and allow herself to be photographed. We worked slowly, changing the light and the way she stood, paying attention to small movements rather than trying to create complicated poses. Her hands resting gently over her belly, the curve of her body, the softness of the fabric against her skin. The photographs became quiet portraits of pregnancy rather than a collection of typical maternity poses.

This is the kind of maternity photography I love most when the session is created entirely for the woman herself. There is no need to make it bigger than it is. No need for a story with several people or a complicated production.
Sometimes one woman, one pregnancy and one quiet hour are enough. Because this body will change. The baby will be born. Life will move forward very quickly, and this particular version of her will exist only for a short time. The photographs will remain. Years from now, she may look at them and remember not only what her pregnancy looked like, but how she felt standing there, waiting for her baby, completely herself and completely in the middle of something that could never happen twice in quite the same way.
That is why I believe maternity photography can be such a personal experience. It doesn’t always have to be about announcing a pregnancy or creating photographs for other people to see. Sometimes, the photographs are simply a gift a woman gives to herself. Maternity photography in Skåne, Malmö and Lund is available by appointment.
